RULES

GENERAL RULES

​1. WAIVER: ​​Anyone attending any MSHS event MUST sign the liability waiver upon entry.  Anyone that does not sign will be considered a trespasser and will be removed from the property immediately.

2. PERSONAL PROPERTY: MSHS is not liable for any lost or stolen property of any spectators or race participants. 

 

3. INCLEMENT WEATHER: MSHS reserves the right to delay, postpone, or cancel any event due to inclement weather causing unfit racing or track conditions.  MSHS may also alter the order of scheduled events during the day/weekend if need be. If an event is canceled after you have already entered the gate, there will be no refund of entry fees. If an event is delayed due to inclement weather, every effort will be made to resume the normal schedule of events ASAP once conditions improve sufficiently. 

 

4. PIT RIDING: Pt riding is NOT PERMITTED at any MSHS event. Handicap permits are available upon request for those in need and can be obtained at Registration after approval from an official. MSHS may revoke a permit at any time if an official deems it appropriate. Riders traveling to and from their pit areas MUST ALWAYS wear a helmet and MUST NOT exceed first gear idle. Violations of this rule can result in penalties up to and including disqualification of the associated rider within the violators associated group. 

 

5. WARM-UP: Warm-up riding is limited to the start area only and must be approved by an official ONLY after the rider has registered for the event.

6. MEDICAL INSURANCE: MSHS does not provide medical insurance for competitors. Medical insurance is the sole responsibility of the competitor, and all are urged not to compete without it. 

7. RIDER/PIT CREW RESPONSIBILITY: Riders are responsible for the actions of their entire family and pit crew. Riders and/or family and pit crews who direct foul and abusive language to an official, promoter, or other riders or spectators are subject to disqualification/dismissal from the current event or entire series. Any unnecessary issues caused by these individuals puts the associated rider at risk for disqualification. 

8. RULE VIOLATIONS: The promoter may disqualify or dismiss and rider, crew member, or family member from an event for violation of any rule, conduct, or any action deemed detrimental to the race. Such disqualification or dismissal includes loss of any rights regarding the event in question and may result in expulsion from the race site and series entry. The promoter is empowered to suspend any rider, crew member, or family member for a period of any amount of time for violation of any rules or other actions deemed to be detrimental to the sport.

RIDER ELIGIBILITY

1. AGE DETERMINATION: For ALL classes, age is determined by the rider's age as of January 1st of the current year; however, a YOUTH  rider may advance to a higher age division if he/she chooses to do so. Once a rider advances to a higher age division, they may NOT return to the younger age division without approval from an official. 

2. MINORS: ALL riders under the age of 18 MUST be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. 

3. AMATEUR COMPETITORS: Amateur bike competitors must be at least 14 years of age at the time of the event to compete on a 250cc machine or larger.  Amateur ATV competitors must be at least 15 years of age at the time of the event to compete on a 400cc machine or larger. 

 

4. CLASS DETERMINATION: A rider must register in a similar class throughout all local series' (i.e. racers in a letter designated class in another series must run the same letter designated class at MSHS if it is available). Any racer running a higher-ranking class in another series will be required to move up at MSHS if a written protest is submitted by a rider in the same class. Class points WILL NOT transfer when a rider is moved to a higher-ranking class due to protest or otherwise. 

*A letter designated class is one with "A", "B", or "C" in the class name.

 

5. PROTESTS: Any individual wishing to protest another rider must follow MSHS Protesting Rules and may begin the process at the Registration Trailer. A protest may only be submitted against a rider in the SAME CLASS as the affected rider. 

 

6. CLASS ADVANCEMENT: A rider may advance to a higher skill-level class for ONE race if they so choose, and may return to the lower skilled class at the next event with no penalties.  A rider may only do this ONCE in a season. 

 

7. CLASS WINNERS: Adult riders who win their class TWO YEARS IN A ROW will be required to move up to a higher class for the next race season. *We will NEVER force an A rider to move up to Pro Class. 

 

8. FIRST YEAR RACER (MINI BIKE): Riders who have entered a MAXIMUM of two (2) events in the First Year Racer class in the previous year and HAVE NOT raced in any other classes, may run First Year Racer again the following year.  This will only be permitted ONCE. 

EQUIPMENT

1. RIDING GEAR: All riders must have a helmet, goggles, gloves, pants, a long-sleeved shirt, and boots that go over the ankle. Chest protectors are not required, but are highly recommended. 

2. TETHER SWITCH: All ATV competitors MUST have a working tether switch for safety purposes. 

3. TIRES: Studded tires are NOT PERMITTED at any event regardless of the weather or track conditions. 

4. OFFICIAL MACHINE: The machine a rider leaves the starting line with is considered the official machine of the rider for that event. Riders may not switch machines OR riders during an event for any reason.  If a rider is caught switching either the machine or the rider on the machine, they will be immediately disqualified. 

REGISTRATION

1. All riders MUST register for the race before riding their machine anywhere. 

2. HELMETS: All riders MUST bring their helmets to registration at EACH EVENT. If a Mini or Youth rider is registering for multiple races for the day (i.e. racing Mini and Youth OR Youth and Adult) the rider only needs to bring their helmet to registration once; however, the correct transponder number MUST be written on BOTH registration forms.

3. WRISTBANDS: All riders MUST have their wristband on and visible when registering for any event. If you do not have a wristband, you will not be registered. 

4. MINORS: Any rider under the age of 18 MUST have a parent or legal guardian present at the event to give written consent when registering. MSHS officials may ask for proper identification from the parent or legal guardian if deemed necessary by Registration Staff. 

5. REGISTRATION FORMS: Registration forms must be filled out neatly and completely in order to be processed. Any form not filled out properly will not be accepted. 

6. REGISTRATION PROCESS: Upon registering, each rider will receive a number sticker, class row sticker, and transponder (if needed). The rider number must be placed on the lower left and right chin piece of the helmet for scoring personnel to locate easily. If the number stickers are not placed in the proper area OR do not match the number assigned during registration, YOU WILL NOT BE SCORED until the issue is corrected, NO EXCEPTIONS.  The class row sticker should be placed on the back of the helmet and must not be covered by the goggle strap.  The transponder should be placed on the underside of the visor of the helmet. Only ONE transponder is required for scoring. Riders with more than one transponder will be asked to remove one in order to be properly scored. Failure to do so will result in penalties leading up to and including loss of laps. Please see images below for proper sticker placement.

7. Pre-Registration: Pre-registered riders MUST pick up their packet from the Pre-Registration tent prior to going to the starting line.  Riders who do not pick up their packet will be removed from the event and not scored. 

STARTING PROCEDURES

1. RIDER'S MEETING: A rider's meeting will be held at the starting line prior to each race.  All riders are responsible for attending the rider's meeting. 

2. LINE-UP: Riders are not permitted to line up until 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start of their race. Any rider lined up on the starting line before this time will be assessed a 2-minute penalty. Pit Crew or parents are NOT permitted to "save spots" on the starting line for any reason, NO EXCEPTIONS. 

3. START PROCEDURE: After the rider's meeting is completed, the official will raise the Blue Flag to signal all riders to shut down their machines. Once all engines are off, the official will signal "10 seconds". At this time all pit crew members must step back from their rider. Between 8 and 10 seconds after the "10 seconds" signal, the official will throw the green flag signaling the start of the race. 

4. DEAD-ENGINE START: All races, apart from MINI ATV and MINI BIKE races, are dead-engine starts. Riders must attempt to start their engines at least two (2) times without any assistance before their pit crew is allowed to step in. Any assistance given before the rider attempts to start their engine at least two (2) times, will result in a 30 second penalty. 

5. EARLY START/JUMP: A rider must not start their engine or leave their line before the green flag is thrown. Any rider starting early and not returning to their proper starting line will be assessed a minimum penalty of 1 minute. 

6. WRONG LINE: If a rider takes off with the line ahead of them, whether intentional or not, their time will be adjusted to the correct starting time for their class plus a 30 second penalty. 

7. PUSH-OFFS (MINIS): Parents may not "push-off" their rider in any way on the starting line. Any violation of this rule will result in a penalty of 30 seconds MINIMUM.

RIDER RESPONSIBILITY/ON TRACK REGULATIONS

1. COURSE INSPECTION: The race course may be inspected by riders starting Friday at 5pm when the gates open and can be accessed on foot at any time during the weekend. Riders may only bike the course either before or after a live race, not during. 

2. COURSE MARKINGS: Riders must follow the proper course marker during their race to ensure they are on the correct track. MINI racers are to follow GREEN arrows, YOUTH racers are to follow BLUE arrows, and ADULT racers are to follow Red Arrows. Riders may also see DANGER or WRONG WAY markers along their track depending on the terrain.  See the image below for clarification.

3. MARKED COURSE: All riders must remain on the marked course at all times. The marked course is within 25 feet of either side of the race arrows posted. Riders MUST NOT go outside the confines of the following course markers: Double arrows posted on either side of the race track, ribbon, banners, hay bales, barrels, motocross track, or grass track. Any deliberate bypass of any of the previously named markers will result in penalty at the discretion of an official. Penalties can include loss of lap, time penalties, or even disqualification if deemed appropriate. 

4. FAST-LAPS: If a rider gets off course for any reason and completes a "fast-lap", that lap WILL NOT be counted. It is the rider's responsibility to remain on the marked course at all times. Following another rider is not an excuse. 

5. BOTTLENECKS: Riders encountering a bottleneck may go more than 25 feet from the marked course to get around the bottleneck; however, the rider must re-enter the course as soon as possible and upon approaching this section the next lap, must ride the original marked course if the bottleneck has been cleared. 

6. LAP TRAFFIC: Slower riders must move over as soon as safely possible for faster riders to pass. 

7. CORNER MARKERS: Riders may not cut to the inside of any gray corner markers or hay bales.  If a corner marker is cut, the rider will be assessed a 45 second penalty. 

8. LEAVING THE COURSE: If a rider must leave the course to go to their pit area, or for any other reason, they must re-enter the course where they left. If the rider does not re-enter the course at the correct point, their lap will not be counted, NO EXCEPTIONS. 

9. RIDER COMMUNICATION: Radios are permitted between pit crew members and riders during their race. 

10. RIDER CONTACT: Deliberate ramming, blocking, or intentional contact with another rider is NOT tolerated and will result in immediate disqualification.

11. TEAM TACTICS: Team tactics are NOT permitted. This includes, but is not limited to, blocking, allowing another rider to pass to affect the outcome of the race, or exchanging machines for another rider to continue to race. Any rider involved in any team tactics will be disqualified. 

12. RIDER/PIT CREW CONDUCT: Unsportsmanlike conduct from either the rider or their pit crew may result in penalty including disqualification. 

13. COURSE ALTERING: Any rider, spectator, or pit crew member altering or placing dangerous objects on the course which causes injury to other riders or spectators or alters the outcome of the race will be held criminally and financially responsible for any losses that may occur. 

14. PITTING/MACHINE REPAIRS: Riders may be serviced or pitted along any part of the race course EXCEPT the scoring area. 

15. TOWING: Racers whose disabled machines are towed back to the pit by course marshals, for any reason, are eligible to return to the course ONLY if they HAVE NOT completed a full lap. If a rider is towed after they have completed a full lap, they are not eligible to return to the race course. 

16. MEDIC FLAG: When the Medic Flag (white flag with red cross) is thrown during a race, this means there is an injured rider on the course and ALL riders must use caution when approaching. Riders MUST bring their machines to an idle while passing the injured rider and/or medics. Failure to do so will result in penalty including, but not limited to, loss of lap or disqualification. 

SCORING/RACE FINISH

1. SCORING TENT: Riders MUST come to a complete stop at the scoring tent. Any rider who does not stop or "coasts" through the scoring area will not be scored for that lap. It is the rider's responsibility to make sure they are scored properly. 

2. TRANSPONDER: A rider MUST use the transponder assigned to them during registration. Riders who fail to use their assigned transponder or sign up with an incorrect transponder will NOT be scored. If a rider's incorrect transponder causes further scoring issues, they may be subject to further penalties including disqualification. 

3. MACHINE CONTROL: Scoring is a high-caution area. Riders must enter the scoring tent in full control of their machine allowing for a smooth stop. Any rider entering the scoring area out of control (i.e. sliding to stop, hitting the scoring tent, hitting the scoring official, ramming another rider) will be subject to penalties including, but not limited to, loss of laps or disqualification. 

 

4. SCORING EQUIPMENT: Any rider that causes significant damage to scoring equipment due to negligence will be subject to penalties, including monetary fines, to cover damages. 

 

5. EXITING SCORING: Once a rider has been successfully scored for their lap, they must make every effort to clear the scoring tent quickly and safely to not create bottlenecks. Any rider causing unnecessary delays in the scoring area are subject to penalty at the official's discretion. 

 

6. NO PASSING ZONE: The scoring area, including the ribboned chicane leading up to the scoring tent is a NO PASSING ZONE. Riders may ONLY pass if another rider's machine is disabled AND the scoring official directs them to do so. Riders passing in any part of this area are subject to penalties including loss of laps. 

 

7. RACE FINISH: When the checkered flag is displayed, it indicates the end of the race. It is the rider's responsibility to see and acknowledge the checkered flag. Riders must not re-enter the course for any reason after the checkered flag has been displayed. Each rider has 45 minutes from the time the overall leader receives the checkered flag to complete their final lap. After 45 minutes, scoring will end and any rider left on the track will be asked to exit and return to their pits. 

 

8. DNF/DNS: A DNF will be given to any rider who leaves the starting line but does not complete a full lap. A DNF does count toward a rider's year end qualification but holds no point value. A DNS will be given to any rider who does not make it to the starting line or does not leave the starting line. In this instance, the rider may request a full refund of their entry fee. 

 

9. SCORING DISPUTES: Riders have thirty (30) minutes after a race to file a dispute regarding scoring/results. After 30 minutes all results will be final, and plaques will be awarded. It is each rider's responsibility to review the results during the dispute period to endure they are correct. 

AWARDS/PRIZES

1. AWARD TYPE: Mini, Youth and Amateur awards will be given in the form of a plaque.  All "A" class winners (A, Open A/B, Vet A, Senior A) will be given a Registration Certificate in addition to their plaque. These certificates must be claimed at the podium presentation. Cash awards will be given to Pro and A class (only the A class winner will receive a cash prize in addition to their Registration Certificate). These cash awards must be claimed at the podium presentation. 

2. AWARD PRESENTATION: YOUTH and ADULT plaques are awarded at the rate of 1 per every 3 riders in the class. The top 3 riders in each class will always receive an award regardless of rider count. MINI plaques are awarded at the rate of 1 per every 2 riders in the class. The top 3 riders in each class will always receive an award regardless of rider count. 

 

3. PRO PAYOUT: The top Pro Bike and ATV finishers will receive their cash awards based on the table below. Pro Payout is always 200% + and the top 3 finishers will always receive a payout regardless of the number of entries.

4. HOLESHOT AWARDS: Holeshot awards will be given to Mini, Youth, and Adult racers in specific classes at each round. Holeshot awards may come in from the form of certificates, gift cards, or products provided by our sponsors. All Holeshot awards must be claimed at the podium.

5. SPECIAL PRIZES: During any special event (i.e. Amateur Incentive events, etc.) Adult Amateur, Youth, and Mini prizes may be given. These special prizes may come in the form of a certificate or gift card. All special prizes earned must be claimed at the podium. 

POINTS/CHAMPIONSHIPS

1. CLASS POINTS: Each rider will receive class points after each event they complete. Points are awarded based on the table below. Riders may change their class at any time during the season; however, points DO NOT TRANSFER from class to class.  If a rider earns a position greater than 20th in their class, the race will still count as a qualifying event toward Year End Points, it will simply hold no point value.

2. YEAR END POINTS: To qualify for year end points, a rider must run a minimum of nine (9) events in the SAME CLASS during the season.

3. QUALIFYING RIDERS: A qualifying rider is one who competes in the minimum required number of races during the current season. The TOP TEN qualifying riders in each class will receive an award at the end of the season. 

4. CHAMPIONSHIPS: Class championships will be determined by the points earned from a rider's best finishes in a minimum of 9 events during the season. 

5. TIES: Ties for the Class Championship will be broken by the most FIRST PLACE finishes, then by the best finish in the final race of the season if needed. Ties for other class positions will be broken by the best finish in the final race of the season.
